As i first came here, i didnt know anything about teaching or how to handle kids. However, vpbali made it very easy and smooth thanks to the staff. They were always supportive and there whenever we needed something. I had a very good connection with the students. They are so adorable and loving and most of all they appreciate the small things you do. What made it easy was that there was a curriculum that you can follow. First off, Bali is an absolutely amazing place. The homestay is located in central Ubud, you are able to experience the full thrill of the city. Wayan and his family are extremely nice and hospitable at the homestay. They are always willing to drive you and a group of people to any destination you are curious about. I stayed here 2 weeks. It has been an intense experience that made me get in contact with the local culture and youth in a way that would have not been possible by traveling on my own. Kids are amazing and they enrich your days, from the moment you arrive at school and hear your name shouted to the excitement of stickers time (end of the lessons). I recommend this experience to any traveler or curious individual who wants to discover not only an amazing country but a lively and dynamic population. Honesty is perfect as it is located in the center of Ubud and offers tours all around Bali. My experience with vp Bali has been a good one. This has been my first time out of Europe and Bali has been a good place to start, the home stay owners have been really helpful and would do anything for you. I felt safe staying at the home stays and going to school. The children are really enthusiastic and always ask after volunteers. I came with another portuguese friend. We shared a room at the homestay which was really good. The bathroom was really funny because it was just a shower right in the middle of it, but soon we realized that every bathroom on this island is like that.
I loved the people in the program, they were all very nice and welcoming and I think no one feels like the newbie when they arrive. I have stayed for 4 weeks, so obviously I have a lot of stories to tell, but I honestly recommend this program, especially if you like to make new friends!Laura, from Portugal

You go to Bali with the idea to give something, to help the local community and teaching English to the Balinese kids. However, when you leave you realize that you have just received from them, especially from the kids. They give you their heart.
Once happened that I was sick and I missed one class. The reaction of the children surprised me. Everyone prepared a piece of paper wishing me to get well soon and everyone, the day after, was so worried about me. I’m really touched by this experience. It’s been amazing. The children I taught at VP Bali where absolutely incredible. Every child was happy, fun, enthusiastic and ever so loving and caring. It was more than just teaching the basics and writing content on the board, more than just creating activities for all the children to be apart of, but an eye opening experience. From the first day it was easy to get into, the kids and the other volunteers are warm and embracing. Despite having had no teaching experience, the programme was welcoming and the children are so grateful for anything it makes it a pleasure to play even the smallest game. The children are so much more loving than I expected and it makes the volunteering that extra bit funner and easier. As for teaching experience, having two classes, each of different ages, allows for two intensities and a wide spectrum of experience. That was the first time I did volunteer and that was a really good trip. Teaching was a good experience, even more with kids like this, they are really kind. First I thought that would be a difficult trip but at my arrival I totally changed my mind. The homestay is really nice. I discovered the balinese culture, and this is really interesting one. I travelled around Bali, to kuta, seminyak and gili, visiting temples, beaches and waterfalls. The kids were so geuininly friendly and their smile put a smile on my face. The staff couldn’t be any nicer and are always there for anything we need, wether translating in class or helping us with creative ideas. The students are very enthusiatic and love learning which motivates us teachers even more to come to school with a smile on our faces. It has been such a good experience being a volunteer at VP Bali. In school the kids are very willing to learn! I didn’t have any previous experience with teaching but that’s not a problem. By living with a local family you get to know the culture and how it is to live in Bali. They’re so open minded and you can ask about everything and they’ll do their best to answer you. This was my first time volunteering and I have loved every minute. When we first arrived at the homestay, we were welcomed by the other volunteers who were happy to show us where to eat, drink and shop! From the moment you arrive, the children are so happy to see you, and eager to know everything about their new volunteer. Here I am in a country far far away where everything is so different from back home. The students, staff, culture, and people of Bali have embraced me and opened their arms like I was a family member. It showed me that I was making a impact on these kids and they will never understand the impact they had me. While the kids taught me about their lives in Bali the staff also immersed us into the Balinese way. We were able to learn Balinese dance, and ceremony culture and attend ceremonies for the schools. During my trip through Southeast Asia I took a couple of weeks to volunteer in Bali with the VP Bali. I had two classes with kids from about 6 to 10 years old. As a English Teacher I can say that there’s nothing in life more fulfilling than seeing a kid enjoying a class and actually learning, this is what happens in VP Bali. Kids come to classes to learn in a fun and dynamic way. It is amazing who they appreciate your help and how they get so closed to you in just a couple of days. All the staff members and volunteers I got the chance to meet and share this experience with were very nice and helpful all the time. Volunteering is definitely the most incredible thing I’ve done so far in my life. I had an excellent experience with VP Bali. I was very nervous coming in, as had never been a teach before, never mind an ESL teacher. However, the staff was very helpful in making me feel comfortable and in providing resources. It was helpful having a co-teacher to provide feedback and bounce ideas off of. For me it is just totally normal that every child goes to school and gets the education that it needs. But here I just realized that it is not normally and a lot of kids just sell stuff on the street instead of going to school. I’m glad that I’v been could be a little part of Volunteer Bali who just tries to help as good as possible and to change the situation.I really enjoyed to volunteer in this beautiful location- Ubud is just amazing! I decided to join this volunteering programme when I already started my backpacking. So far it has been the best decision I made during my whole traveling as I experienced my most beautiful time throughout the whole trip during my stay at VPBali. My overall experience was amazing. I first think that the program is really helpful as I could see the improvement with most of the students. The kids are really nice and want to learn a lot. I was a volunteer at VP Bali for one month and had a very good experience. Almost all volunteers stay together what makes it one big group of friends in a very short moment of time. Teacher the children is done with another co teacher what’s makes it easier and more fun as the kids can be quite busy and enthusiastic. I think two months if a really good amount of time to learn how the program works, put in your own effort, make new friends, and make a connection with the students. Although it felt like I was there for a long time, if I had more time to spare, I would have extended my Visa and stayed longer to set new goals and try new lesson plans. I have done this program for eight weeks with my friend. Already on the first day it felt like home. The children welcome you as if you knew them already. Not only the teaching is fun, you also have a lot of free time. In this free time you can explore Ubud where there is always something to do. My only regret is that I am not able to stay longer.This experience has been amazing in many ways. The kids at school were eager to learn and mostly very respectful and welcoming of all the new teachers. A special aspect of VP Bali is the family you become apart of: staff, volunteers, local coordinators, and students. I was travelling for a long time and instead of travelling I wanted to have a brake for a while. I volunteered before in India and I felt like its a great way how to interact with people. You really get to know the country and its people. I was looking at several programs but I picked this one cause it looked like you really had some plan and goal and it all felt organized. Even now when I am here I can feel everything is structured, I feel like I am helping to the kids. The kids are very energetic and happy to learn new things and its really nice to see that. I love to travel and I don´t like to just stop in the place for two weeks and then go. I like to immerse myself in the culture and I think the best way to do it is to volunteer, be with the community and interact with them. Teaching has always been something I wanted to try and I think this is the opportunity I was looking for.I have never done this kind of volunteering before but I really do like it cause I feel it makes difference. I had someone who did similar thing before and it sounded really good. So I took a look and everything about the project sounded really good. Before coming here I didn´t know what to exactly expect. My best experience would be playing all the games after doing the exercises. It was really nice having different kind of classes, one with younger kids that didn´t understand a lot and older ones, very clever and easy to get along with. I’ve been teaching kids in Holand, but that’s very different because of the language and culture.I really had to remember the differences like not to point with your left hand but the right one and things like that. I’ll never forget how my relationship with kids has developed. When I started, the kids were a bit hesitant but after two weeks they became so attached. Today was a really good day. It was my last day teaching at VP Bali. At VP Bali I could volunteer and experience Bali at the same time. So this was a great combination. I really liked the group of volunteers. We became really good friends and even a little family because we did everything together. We traveled and taught together and shared the same experience. The children are amazing. I think the best memory that I have from volunteering for VP Bali is playing with the children and especially at the rice fields. It was really fun to see the children playing outside in the rice fields. The children in the program are really motivated and eager to learn. I always wanted to participate in a project abroad with children. The best thing for me was to try to create a great relationship with the children. I personally think that the four weeks were not long enough. I preferred to stay longer.Once I only had two children in my class, these two children were really intelligent and eager to learn. We had during this class, good conversations and in this way they were able to improve their oral skills. I think that the students appreciate these moments.
