Volunteer is a special word, volunteering means taking time out and doing something in the hope it will help make a difference to someone else’s life. As Volunteer Programs Bali, teaching English is a part of our mission; however, we aim for bigger. Not only this is an opportunity for volunteers to experience this, but also it has a huge impact on the children. We try to give the most for both side knowing that there is giving and taking in return. Giving a child in Bali the opportunity to proceed with his education, making them grow for their future and having “the experience” that constitutes of culture exchange. Giving the volunteer to see the world from a different aspect, learn and develop, achieve a new skill and much more.
Jessica and Georgia (UK) applied to volunteer with VP Bali for the right reasons as any volunteer at Volunteer Programs Bali would do. They have travelled a long way, just for a short period of time, to give in what they have to offer. But the story of Jess and Georgia’s journey doesn’t end here! As they arrived, they had brought with them donations for the kids that consists of paint, toothbrushes, crayons, brushes, coloring pencils, and much more; moreover, what made their donation special is the surprise letter from Jessica’s sister, Macie, to hand out for the students of VP Bali.
The students were so thrilled to read the letter as for them it made a huge impact. So they decided to write to “Macie”, Jessica’s sister, back thanking her for her effort. The Volunteer Programs Bali family appreciated this act of kindness and for that we decided to return this special gesture by sending Macie letters from the students as well as to hand her a traditional souvinere from Bali.
The students introduced themselves by telling their names, talking about their families, as well as asking her questions such as “ what is your hobbies?”. After they finished writing their drafts, they wrote it on construction paper and designed it.
Today Jessica and Georgia will finish their placement. Not only they will take the memories and connections that they build here with the students, staff and co volunteers, but also they will take the “Thank You” letters to Macie to show her their appreciation. A small gesture can change a lot. The fact that Macie wrote this letter to the students, really touched their heart because it was not only volunteering that they did rather than a true connection.
Thank you Jess, Georgia and Macie for everything. It was a pleasure having you here with the team! You not only gave your time to volunteer, but also you touched each and one of us with with your spirit.
